Ridge Runner Marathon and 10 Mile Race 2011

Thanks to all the Amateur Radio operators who participated in the event. I finished dead last in the 10 Mile, but I had a good time.

There seems to be little information on the web about the courses, so I decided to upload these files to clear up some of the apparent confusion. Hopefully, the results will be available soon. I'll update this post with the link when they are.

New-N Paradigm Changes Applied to KE8NK-3

Hello all!

It's been ages since my last post, but I doubt it's caused any hardship for anyone (haha).

At any rate, be advised that as of Saturday, May 14, 2011, I have finally adjusted the KE8NK-3 APRS digipeater settings to the New-N Paradigm. Just click the link for a detailed explanation. In essence, these new changes make the system more efficient in handling RF traffic.

In addition, I have added the WV8RAG VHF and WB8NSL UHF repeaters as APRS objects that will beacon their frequencies and display an icon on APRS mapping.

Please help by monitoring the system via the internet or any APRS capable radio to catch any problems or inconsistencies.

Just reply to this post if you discover any issues.

One final thought: please consider educating yourself about APRS. It is a highly capable mode of communication that incorporates voice and data on one channel!

I have increased the size of the live APRS map. It should be much more enjoyable to play around with now. I do experience some degradation in the time it takes to load the page, but it's not a huge issue for me. If this is causing anyone serious problems, please let me know.

There is a Skywarn Class April 9, 2009 at 6pm at the Doddridge and Ritchie 911 center in Pennsboro. Anyone can attend.
The net 2 meter net needs check-ins, so make an effort to check-in on 147.300 pl tone of 107.2.
April 16th the club meeting at Pennsboro Branch of the Ritchie county library at 7pm.

Received a email from N8RFQ Bill he said to tell everyone hello he was still making the trip from his home regularly an he said he had traded cars and has not got a 2m radio installed.
Our net was down from week before but it was still a good net those checking in were: KC8ZVW, KD8FGM*, KD8AJH, WA8LLM, KC8JKO, KB8TIV, KC8QFH*, KD8CTP*, KB8TIU*, WV8RG, KD8IER, KD8AMN.

There is some news to report. On April 9th, at the new 911 center on Lamberton road in Pennsboro, the Ritchie county OES, Jim White, has scheduled a beginners Skywarn class. It is an opportunity to become a weather watcher and learn some facts about our local weather. It is on April 9, 2009 at 6pm. In other news, remember the Net this Thursday at 9pm on 147.300. Check in give us a

comment. Tell us what's going on with you; we all would be glad to hear from you.

I sent out ARES reports and net reports for the month. If you have an hf radio, tomorrow night after the WV Phone Net, at 5pm, will be their monthly WV ARES Net. It is on 3.811.00 LSB. It is a great chance to try your hf radio out.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is requesting individuals who are interested in serving on the National Advisory Council (NAC) to apply for appointment. FEMA is seeking to reappoint or replace 11 seats on the Council in 2009 as the incumbents’ terms end June 15, 2009.
The NAC was established to ensure effective and ongoing coordination of Federal preparedness, protection, response, recovery, mitigation for natural disasters, acts of terrorism and other man-made disasters. The NAC assists FEMA in carrying out its missions by providing advice and recommendations in the development and revision of the national preparedness guidance, the national preparedness system, the National Incident Management System, the National Response Framework, and other related plans and strategies. Since their conception, the council has made recommendations to the Administrator on the National Response Framework, the National Incident Management System, the Stafford Act, the National Disaster Housing Strategy, the establishment of Regional Disability Coordinators in each FEMA region, private sector issues, and special needs issues.
The Council consists of thirty-five members, all of whom are recognized experts and outstanding leaders in their respective fields. The following discipline areas for three (3) year terms expiring on June 15, 2012 are open for applications and nominations: Emergency Management, Emergency Response In-Patient Medical Provider, Cyber Security, State Elected Official, Local Elected Official, and three appointments, which will be selected at the discretion of the FEMA Administrator. The ex officio position’s term from the Homeland Security Advisory Council’s Emergency Responder Senior Advisory Committee will also be ending in July 2009. In addition to the these new appointments, FEMA seeks applications to fill the remaining term of the Disability representative position, which ends on June 15, 2011, as the current representative will be retiring in May 2009.
Individuals seeking to be considered for an appointment on the Council should submit a resume or Curriculum Vitae (CV) detailing their experience in the arena of emergency management and related fields, along with letters of recommendation. FEMA also welcomes recommendations from organizations and stakeholder groups. Applicants should state for which discipline area or areas they are applying. Applications or resumes must be received on or before 5:00 pm EST on Friday, March 6, 2009, in order to be considered.
